More than an office – Trivium

Trivium Packaging is the global leader in high-quality and infinitely recyclable metal packaging. It operates nearly 50 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and research and development sites worldwide. One of the company’s Business Service Centres is located in Budapest, where its employees carry out their daily tasks on the furniture supplied by Coninvest. We asked interior designer Sándor Kogan-Szabó and project manager Gábor Dybisewszky about the process of designing the office and working with Coninvest.

What were the main ideas and guidelines behind the interior design of the office?

Sándor Kogan-Szabó / Arkitektor: “The design brief was finalized together with the client, so already in the spaceplan phase the aspects beyond the direct work could be given proper emphasis.

It was quickly decided that, in addition to the standard work programme, there should be areas where colleagues from different areas could meet in a more informal setting (work café), and an area of the office that could accommodate most of the staff, where training sessions or even events could be organised (collab. zone).

Another important aspect for the client was to give the office and meeting rooms a unique look for the different product categories of the company.”

How did you get in contact with Coninvest and why did you choose them?

Sándor Kogan-Szabó / Arkitektor: “I have known Coninvest for about 20 years, we have worked together on many projects. With the increasing emphasis on the well-being and comfortable environment of colleagues in offices, places like tea kitchens and collaboration areas are finally getting the attention and resources they deserve. This is where Coninvest’s extensive experience in the hospitality industry is particularly useful. Not only on a technical level, but they can also partner with us on the design side.”

How did you work together to select the furniture for the office?

Sándor Kogan-Szabó / Arkitektor: “Coninvest is in contact with many manufacturers, thanks to this we were able to get suitable furniture options in a short time based on one or two concepts and analogies. We did not run unnecessary rounds.”

What was the biggest challenge during the project?

Sándor Kogan-Szabó / Arkitektor: “Of course, the budget, but also covid made the process more complicated.”

Gábor Dybisewszky / Cushman & Wakefield Project & Development Services: “Trivium Packaging was only a manufacturer in Hungary, so when they appointed a new managing director to head the Business Service Centre, we had to work with him and the project team to figure out what additional needs their future office should meet. Our close collaboration and previous experience resulted in the final design. Recruitment progressed steadily throughout the project, growing from the original 4-5 people to ~60 by the time of the technical handover, but in the meantime covid arrived so they were able to grow further with hybrid working (office + home office).”

Which moment of the project do you remember the most?

Sándor Kogan-Szabó / Arkitektor: “The consultation of the outline design part: the process went very smoothly, we were able to coordinate well with the client.”

Gábor Dybisewszky / Cushman & Wakefield Project & Development Services: “When several of the bidders from the contractor tender bids fit within the budget, we knew that the interior design concept envisioned by Sándor and his team would be implemented as planned and as approved by the client.”
